Annual Report
Annually each Local Strategic Partnership undertakes a self-assessment, which is then assessed by Government Office for the West Midlands (GOWM). The task requires the Partnership to assess progress against the National Floor Targets for each of its Theme Groups.
During 2007 / 08 Walsall Council has undergone a comprehensive performance assessment. We are proud to be rated as a 3-star improving council. However, as we look to the future, the approach to assessment is changing. There will be more focus on partnership and the results achieved by working together. The Walsall Partnership will enable us to bring key organisations and individuals across Walsall together and will focus us all on making a real difference for our communities.
Alongside this annual report we are publishing our Sustainable Community Strategy. This sets out our long-term vision for the borough as a great place to live, work and invest. Partners right across the borough are building this into their own corporate plans. We have worked with our partners to agree the priorities for the next six years and action plans will flow from this. As a result there will be a significant improvement in the way that we work together, delivering better results more efficiently and effectively.
The way in which local government works is changing. The Walsall Partnership will be crucial to enabling democratic leadership and a fuller role to be played by elected members.
Over the next year, key organisations in the borough will work to align their budgets and to put the resources required behind our plans. This will deliver a better result and greater value for money overall.
