Teens reading group at Central Library
Date Published : 13 November 2008
Teens across Walsall are being invited to come along to a teenage reading group at Central Library.
The library, based in Lichfield Street near to the town centre has re-launched its Teenage Reading Group to take place on the second Tuesday of each month from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
Denise Gold, reader development manager for Walsall Libraries said the aim of the group is to encourage teenagers to come into the library and meet other teenagers and discover new authors and books.
She said: “Books and reading are increasingly popular with just about everyone these days and Walsall Libraries wants to ensure that teenagers feel supported and encouraged with their reading.
“That’s why we’ve re-launched our teenage reading group at Central Library. We feel that re-arranging the group’s meeting time will give other teenagers a better opportunity to meet together after school and discuss what books they’ve been reading and recommend titles and authors.
“Here in Walsall, we have a good selection of reading material to suit teenagers’ tastes and interests.
“The autobiography market for example is as popular as it’s ever been. Teen icons such as pop stars, footballers and other celebrities recognise the value of releasing their autobiography, and we have a great selection to choose from.
“Everywhere you go, books are a popular buy with supermarkets now offering books to buy as part of your weekly shop. Libraries have known this secret for years and best of all, they offer books to read for free, provide a much bigger range to choose from and have staff with the expertise to help you in your search.
“And as Walsall is a huge supporter of the Get it Loud in Libraries tour, don’t forget we’ll be hosting our third music gig this winter with electronic duo Dan le Sac v Scroobius Pip.”
Walsall Central Library also has a good selection of CDs and DVDs that can be hired for a concessionary hire charge, proving that there’s something for everyone at their local library.
