No Smoking Day 2009

Over a million people are expected to stub out their cigarettes on No Smoking Day on Wednesday 11th March 2009.  Previous years have shown that over 20% still aren't smoking one month later making No Smoking Day the UK's leading public health campaign.

The theme for this year is all about saving cash as the credit crunch starts to bite.  Did you know, for example, that a 20 a-day smoker can save £450 by giving up for 3 months?  That's a new laptop!

No Smoking Day is all about inviting smokers to make a lifelong change.  Quitting takes commitment and planning and the NHS Walsall Stop Smoking Service is fully charged to offer free help and support not only on the day but all year round.  The service can be contacted on 0800 169 9346.  The No Smoking Day Charity who are behind the annual campaign have an information packed website at www.nosmokingday.org.uk with new initiatives this year such as the email 'buddy scheme' which will pair you up with someone else attempting to quit.

Walsall Council Environmental Health Officers will be manning a roadshow based in The Crossing at St. Paul's Church, Darwall Street on 11th March from 10am to 3pm.  Please come and see us for free advice and give-aways.
