Things to do

We offer a wide range of varied activities and sessions, for people either at the day centre or within the community.

We aim to provide a supportive network for people to develop independence, to make choices about their lives, to be informed of their rights and to promote inclusion.

We assess each person and make sure the activities they do meet their particular needs.

The 4 main sites that offer day services are:

  • Brewer Street
  • Goscote Centre
  • Rose Hill & Albion Road
  • Northgate Centre

The types of activities we offer include:

  • life and social skills courses
  • an education development programme
  • college based sessions by the College Of Continuing Education
  • information technology
  • music
  • sensory awareness
  • aromatherapy and massage
  • communication
  • cooking
  • art and design
  • horticulture
  • needlework and dressmaking
  • nature and animal studies
  • health and hygiene
  • fitness, balance and independence (FBI).

Students also attend various local colleges such as College St Paul’s, Shelly Centre and Hawbush for a wide range of courses.

There are also various community activities that are available to service users throughout the week which they can become involved in. These include:

  • leisure and social skills activities, for example pub lunches
  • shopping, going to the cinema, bowling and walks in the park
  • keep fit, swimming and skittles at Bloxwich Leisure Centre
  • trips to various educational places such as Birmingham Airport, the Black Country Museum and the National Space Centre
  • trips to Walsall Library to lend books and surf the net
  • help with Makaton skills and overall communication skills
  • Friends Together - the opportunity to meet or keep in touch with colleagues at Pelsall Community Centre
  • drama at the local Methodist Church
  • linking with Walsall's Street Care making sure that parks and nature walks are free from litter
  • running a local charity shop one day a week for the benefit of the local community.

There are also people in each area who have formed self advocacy groups to have their say in what goes on in their service.

There are also individuals who join outside groups such as Walsall Service User Empowerment and MENCAP.
