Affordable Housing SPD
Affordable Housing is required on all new developments of 15 homes or over. This housing is guided by the councils SPD For Affordable Housing, which has been revised to provide more larger affordable social rented properties. The council adopted the revised SPD on 16 April 2008

The council is committed to ensuring affordable housing does not mean substandard housing, either in terms of space or standards.
The council's preferred approach is that affordable housing conforms to a minimum of Housing Corporation Design and Quality Standards and supports developments which meet the Lifetime Homes Standard. To download a copy of the Housing Corporation Design and Quality Standards please visit:

Lifetime Homes Standard
The council supports developments which meets the Lifetime Homes Standard. This standard has been developed so homes are built for everyone and have the flexibility and adaptability to accommodate life events quickly, cost-effectively and without upheaval.
This standard is expected for affordable housing and encouraged on open market housing.
