LNP Awards Ceremony

The work of Local Neighbourhood Partnerships was celebrated at a special award ceremony which was the first of its kind for the borough.Over 200 people attended the award ceremony to mark the achievements of the nine LNPs across Walsall recently.
A number of categories were awarded on the evening including ‘Most Supportive Service Provider’, which went to Walsall Council’s Street Pride, ‘Most Proactive LNP Volunteer’, which went to 76-year-old resident Ron Salt and the ‘Most Successful LNP Project’ which went to Blakenall & Bloxwich Youth Conference.
The awards evening was hosted by Terry Edis MBE, vice chair of St Matthews Birchills & Leamore LNP and Councillor Garry Perry presented the awards to the winners. Entertainment was provided by local performers from the Street Star Academy and S&J Stars.
A raffle was held to raise money for Walsall Hospice and the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Tom Ansell, presented the hospice with a cheque for £500 at the end of the night.
Ron Salt, who lives in Cartbridge Lane, Walsall, received the award for being the most proactive volunteer for Pelsall and Rushall LNP. When presenting the award to Mr Salt, councillor Perry described him as a ‘passionate volunteer’ who has contributed a great deal to the community. He has tirelessly worked on several projects including the clean up of Ford Brook Canal and issues around fly-tipping.
The ‘Most Successful Community Event’ was awarded to the Darlaston Making A Difference Show (MAD) and the ‘Best Piece of Work Towards an LNP Pledge’ was awarded to the New Invention Community Green. This was a project in partnership between the LNP, Walsall Council, New Invention Community Forum, Black Country Groundwork, Probation Services, local schools and community groups. The aim of the project was to preserve and encourage greater use of the green and provide more facilities for the local community.
David Evans, member of the Brownhills & Aldridge North LNP, was awarded ‘Best Newcomer’ for his work in contributing to the LNP pledges including helping residents to become more empowered to highlight anti-social behaviour issues in their area,
The Ourpal website, run by the Street Star Academy for the Pheasey and Paddock LNP, was awarded ‘Most Innovative Scheme’.
Councillor Garry Perry, cabinet member for safer stronger communities at Walsall Council, said: “This was the first LNP awards evening and it proved to be a resounding success.
“There are lots of people who have worked tirelessly to make some of these projects a success and to make their communities safer and more enjoyable places to live. These awards went some way to giving those people the recognition they deserve,” he added.
