Birth certificates
If you were born in Walsall and you need a copy of your Birth Certificate you should apply to the Walsall Register Office in person, by letter or by completing our application for a birth certificate form and sending it to us at the address below. If you make a personal visit to the Register Office the certificate will be issued the next working day or can be posted to you.
You will need to supply the following information:
- Full name at birth
- Date and place of birth
- Full names of both parents
- Mother’s maiden surname
- Reason for application
The cost of a full copy Birth Certificate in a closed register is £7.00, a short copy Birth Certificate is £5.50 (please note that short birth certificates are often not accepted for personal/business purposes and it is advisable therefore to purchase the full copy). If the entry is in a current register the certificate is £3.50.
If you are writing to Walsall Register Office your cheque or postal order should be made payable to ‘Superintendent Registrar’ and a stamped addressed envelope should be included with your application.

Obtaining a birth certificate after adoption
When an official Adoption Order is made, that entry on the Adopted Children’s Register supersedes any previous birth record entry. Therefore, for the purposes of obtaining official documents such as a passport or driving licence, an adopted person will need to obtain a copy of their entry in the Adopted Children’s Register.
Postal applications can be sent to:

A full certificate from them, containing child and parents details, is £11.50 and a short copy containing just the child’s details, is £10. Payment should be made out to ‘ONS’. Applications are normally processed within five working days.
