Walsall Council's Pest Control Team provide a range of services for both residents and businesses.

Domestic Services
The Pest Control Team provide a free service to occupied domestic premises for the treatment of rats, bedbugs and cockroaches.
The service aims to visit within 48 working hours and appointments can be booked into one of two daily slots:
- Morning (9am – 12:30pm)
- Afternoon (1.30pm – 4.30pm)
Customers will be required to remain at the address between the appointment times as the Pest Control Officer could visit at any time during this period. During busy periods it may not be possible to visit within 48 working hours.
Although there is no particular limit on the amount of times you can call an Officer out to investigate an infestation the treatment the Officer suggests including where to place bait, how much bait to lay and when to revisit will be at that officer's discretion.
Officers should always offer suggestions as to how you can rid the property of pests for example by reducing bird feeding to get rid of rats and mice, treating cats with products from the local veterinary surgeon to erradicate fleas, etc.

Commercial Services
The Disinfestation Team provide Pest Control Services to businesses that are not involved in the production or sale of food.
The charge for such a service is £40 per visit plus materials if the infestation is excessive or requires specialist equipment to resolve.
At present annual Pest Control contracts are not available.
To give a more accurate quote officers can visit and assess the premises free of charge and submit a quote for your approval prior to undertaking any work.
Where circumstances exist that officers believe could make an infestation worse i.e. poor refuse collection services, defective drains, overgrown shrubberies or similar habitats comments will be passed on to ensure any treatment carried out has a greater chance of success.
Payments
Where there is a charge for the treatment of pests payment can be made by the following methods:

Failure to pay for these services may result in the recovery of costs through the Civil Courts and a refusal by the Disinfestation Team to carry out any further treatments at your premises until the debt is paid.
Sightings of rats
Where rats are sighted on public land officers will survey this land and carry out treatments to ensure the rats are destroyed. Please provide as much information as possible as to the location of any sightings to the Pest Control Team.
Infested premises
Where pests are believed to be nesting or infesting a neighbouring property officers within the Public Health Team of which pest control are part have certain powers to take action to ensure the pests are dealt with. If you believe a neighbouring house, business or piece of land is infested with pests please call 01922 652223.
Food businesses
If you are a business that produces, serves or sells food and you believe you have an infestation of pests you should close the premises and immediately contact the Environmental Health Division where an officer will be allocated to investigate and give advice.

Choosing a pest control contractor
In certain circumstances Walsall Council may not be able to provide you with a service; in this case we would recommend the following points are followed to ensure you choose an appropriate contractor to carry out the work required.
We recommend that at least three companies are contacted and quotes from each compared to ensure value for money and effective treatment.
We do not recommend any particular company but the following two trade organisations have a code of conduct which their members should adhere to when dealing with customers. These organisations may be able to assist in finding contractors or helping should any disputes arise.
